An Encouraging Message From a Woman Business Owner

I am writing a number of short articles about women business owners I very much admire with the hope that their stories and advice will spur other women to follow their own dreams and passions as well. It certainly takes courage to take risk and start one’s own business.

I have been receiving care from Holistic Health Care Centers in Lisle, IL, a Chicago suburb. I am very impressed with the people at the clinic. Everyone is happy, would not want to work anyplace else. This is because of the leadership of Dr. Kimberly Leupold.

I asked Dr. Kimberly if she would share her story with me and advice she could pass along to other women.

About eight or so years ago, in studying holistic medicine, she knew this kind of care is truly needed by a great many people, and she wanted to provide it. She wants to help people, and this is still very much her only mission.

At the time, Dr. Kimberly was essentially broke, and with a young son, she decided she would switch careers, to “go for it”. While not a super confident person, her deep faith in God allowed her to take the risk. She rented space to offer her holistic care with the belief that if you truly understand the source and reasons behind your fear, and face it, you have a good chance of succeeding.

Dr. Kimberly is quick to acknowledge that she has very supportive parents and an inner circle of friends who are encouraging, and she has role models in her life whom she looks up to. In addition, she can take confidence by looking back on her past accomplishments. These factors, and the fact that she is by nature a disciplined person, helped her proceed with a small investment to participate in a business coaching group, from which she benefited greatly with ideas and a self-assurance that she could take a risk with a good chance of succeeding.

Dr. Kimberly gives full credit to her team members, who are highly capable and dedicated to the same mission she shares, to provide excellent holistic medical care. They are a true team. Financial results are not part of her thought process. In fact, she tries not to even be aware of how the practice is doing financially, as she focuses on caring for their clients.

Interesting and not surprising are the facts that every employee has stayed since they first joined Dr. Kimberly, and they each have a wonderful relationship with her, knows that she greatly values and cares about them personally and their well-being – and that the practice is growing beyond even hopes, thanks to referrals by happy patients.

Having one’s own business brings work/life balance issues, no doubt. It is a challenge, and one must learn how to adjust.

In summary, Dr. Kimberly believes if you have faith, will take risks, have people in your life who are helpful and encouraging, and believe in yourself, we can step up to the challenge of following our dream with a good chance of success and a highly satisfying life.
